Featured Project: Gotcha Blogger

This project was one that was close to my heart. I am very interested in politics and the last presidential election was quite an interesting one! In order for me to have a creative outlet, William designed Gotcha Blogger for me.

(I will give you fair warning that my opinions expressed on the website may not agree with yours; however, this post is about the design process and not about the content of my adventure in political blogging.)

I didn’t work on this project with William, for Gotcha Blogger, I was purely a client. The process started much the same as all of our projects, with the search for the perfect domain name. In this case, I loved what he helped me decide on! The next step was actual layout, design, and colors.

I knew that I wanted something patriotic but not over the top, we settled on a blue background with a subtle pattern that wasn’t quite the blue on our flag. This color carried over in the headings for the rest of the site. The thing I liked best about our layout was the readability created with a three column design. Instead of having a lot of information crammed into one side column, I was able to incorporate a lot and still have the main center column remain the star of the show. This particular design is great for a “news” type of site that contains a lot of writing and information sharing.

I did work on the Search Engine Optimization (SEO) piece of this project as that task generally falls to me, I have over 6 years of experience in SEO and I really enjoy doing the research it requires.

I was very happy with the finished product and, after seeing Gotcha Blogger, we have a client lined up who would like the theme adapted to their actual small town news site. One of the things that I always ask our clients is “What are some sites that you like?” That doesn’t mean that we make replicas of the sites they enjoy, but their answer gives us an idea about what type of design the client prefers and then we can incorporate that into our design for them.

  1. Love it! Nice to know I’m not the only one in KS whose heart beats blue.

As far as someone to shoot some video, Brett Mathias does. He is the official Videographer for the state of KS. He might be game.

  2. Thanks Tricia!

If I could only find the time to keep my blogs updated. It seems like I am always ready to write but too busy.
